Business Unusual (BUU) is an independent professional company based in Darwin, Australia.
The focus of the company is to create new work which explores the combination of physical theatre, full-face mask, puppetry and text. The work is highly visual and uses original music.
BUU’s distinct visual style has evolved over the years as we explore ways to combine the magic of masks and puppetry with text and narrative to create an imaginative world.
Recently, BUU has used local stories and oral histories as the springboard for new work, interviewing people from diverse communities. Their experiences become the leaping off point for further research leading to a fictional piece of theatre.
Formed in 1998, BUU has devised works that have toured regional and remote NT, SA and QLD.
BUU works with a pool of Darwin-based performers, designers and technicians and collaborates with Melbourne-based theatre makers as core creatives.
